Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (1617–1682), an iconic figure of the Sevillian school, painted religious scenes, portraits of children, and Madonnas of celestial gentleness with unmatched tenderness.
Diego Velázquez (1599–1660), born in Seville, developed his eye there before becoming a court painter in Madrid. His early works, imbued with realism, already reveal his genius.
