American soldiers around a piano in Barenton - Landing in Normandy

This warm photograph captures a moment of relaxation in the heart of the liberation of Normandy during the Second World War. A group of American soldiers gathered around a piano on Montéglise Street in Barenton on August 10, 1944. The two soldiers on the right proudly wear the insignia of the 2nd Armored Division, which arrived in the area on that date.
The piano used here evokes the famous Steinway "Victory Vertical" pianos, specially designed to boost the morale of troops on the front. Although the original legend mentions the song "Go to town," this version does not correspond to the spartan models of pianos used in the field.
A rare and touching moment of camaraderie, reflecting the importance of music and team spirit for these fighters in the heart of World War II.
