The great painters of Varsovie
Canaletto (Bernardo Bellotto) (1722–1780), nephew of the famous Venetian painter, was the official painter of the Polish court. His precise views of Varsovie in the 18th century allowed for a faithful reconstruction of the city after the war.
Wojciech Gerson (1831–1901) depicted historic Poland and its landscapes with a realism imbued with patriotism.
Aleksander Gierymski (1850–1901) brought impressionist light and modern sensitivity to Polish painting, capturing the streets and inhabitants of Varsovie with emotion.
